What was your favourite childhood book and why?
The first book I remember loving was Eragon by Christopher Paolini. It tells the story of a boy who finds a dragon’s egg hidden in the forest outside his village. After the egg hatches, Eragon becomes a dragon rider and embarks on a quest to save his kingdom from an evil foe. A classic magical adventure!
Which of your own books is your favourite and why?
It’s very difficult to choose a favourite because all of my books are special to me in different ways. I love Wonderscape because it was so much fun to write. It’s about three friends who find themselves catapulted 400 years into the future, where video games have evolved into in-reality adventure games that happen for real around you. The characters become trapped inside an in-reality game called the Wonderscape, and must adventure through each level of the game, calling on the help of some unlikely historical heroes to play their way home before time runs out.
Why do you choose to read?
Reading allows me to do impossible things: to travel faster than the speed of light, to explore new worlds, meet incredible characters and even discover magic. One minute I’m sitting on my sofa opening the cover of a book, the next I’m on a rescue mission in the Atlantic rainforest or being blasted four hundred years into the future! Getting lost in a book is one of the best things we can do to expand our imaginations, relax and have fun.
