What was your favourite childhood book and why?

I loved animal stories, ghost stories, anything with a horse in it. My favourite by a whopping mile though was 'For Love Of A Horse' by Scottish author Patricia Leitch. It's about a pony-mad girl called Jinny who rescues a beautiful Arab horse from the circus, and is the first book in a series of 12. It's totally brilliant- all 12 of the stories are- and I was delighted to discover that it is also fellow author Lauren St John's favourite childhood book!

Which of your own books is your favourite and why?

Arrgghhhh! Such a tough question! It would probably be a toss up between Frost Hollow Hall because it made my dream of being an author come true, and Letters From The Lighthouse. This book is particularly special to me because it was very tough to write ( I cried A LOT) but it is the most successful and well-known of all my books.

Why do you choose to read?

I love reading far more than watching television. For me, it's a treat. It's time away from the screen, it's quiet, it allows my mind to wander through someone else's worlds for a change! I see reading as a way of nourishing my brain. My house is full of huge piles of books. I am always reading something, and get very twitchy if I've not got at least half a dozen books lined up to read next!
