It was an evening of “firsts” for the Nottingham Trent University Teachers’ Reading Group on 24 October – the first time we had run a launch event and the first time we had met in a face-to-face format, having run our sessions online over the last couple of years.
In the reception area of our teaching building, we enjoyed exploring the books that had arrived in our TRG book box as well as sharing recommends and refreshments. We then moved to a teaching room to consider the aims of the TRG group; have a tour of the ourfp.org website; meet our new Year 3 BA Primary Education Reading Ambassadors and listen to a colleague from the Education Library Service presenting about the power of book awards to inspire reading for pleasure. We also ensured that we had time to discuss the headlines from the National Literacy Trust’s recent Report on Children and Young People’s Reading. We are looking forward to meeting again soon for our first session which will have a focus on social reading environments.
