Our second session focussed on diversity in children’s literature and all our members brought a wonderful selection to book blether. Using the CLPE Reflecting Realities report as a starting point we explored key leaders in this field and how the industry is responding to the lack of diversity. Our own practice was reflected upon when considering how to choose high quality authentic texts which allow all children to see themselves and the society we live in. As always, we polished off our evening with local bookshop The Alligator’s Mouth suggesting excellent book recommendations to support the evening’s session. Bring on session 3 and social justice in children’s literature!
